Bacha a different kind of solo in Scarborough

>>> As I’ve learned from first-hand experience hosting innumerable open stage nights over the past 25 years, pretty much every hot rod electric guitar player around is also quite adept at picking up an acoustic guitar and delivering an impressive set of tunes all by their lonesome going solo. Veteran Springsteenish/Cleveland-style Rock songwriter David Bacha (who comes by the sound honestly —he was born and raised there) isn’t doing that when he performs as a one-man  act on Wednesdays at Karla’s Roadhouse, however. You won’t find an acoustic six-string anywhere in sight.

“It’s me with my electric guitar, solo and rockin’ it,” the personable and seemingly ageless stage dynamo told me the other night while setting up for a show with his band (which also includes another age-defying veteran, versatile Dennis Brunet on drums) at Harp & Crown in Pickering. Watching Bacha play, producing flawless and exciting killer guitar looks effortless —until you notice all the sweat he exudes!

The Wednesday show, which started up a couple of weeks ago without much ado (will Karla’s ever get its shit together to do regular entertainment promotion on its Facebook group other than for Frank Cosentino?) runs 8:30 - midnight in the lively room on Kingston Road in Scarborough’s West Hill area. -Gary 17, www.torontomoon.ca
