Jollimore’s Sin City Boys should get Dora twitching tonight | TorontoMoon.ca 151009Fr Shows for Friday, October 09, 2021

151009Fr Friday, October 09, 2021\ TO EAST \

Having had the pleasure previously of seeing Sin City Boys perform on a few occasions over the past seven years (enough to make me a fan for life!) I know that patrons who like dancing to vintage Rock with a twist are in for a good time at Dora Keogh tonight.

The group, fronted by Kevin Jollimore on vocals and rhythm guitar —more than ably paired with veteran Gerard Popma on the six-string— Sin City Boys has a powerfully melodic sound yet still substantially rocking vibe that, as I’ve told you before, simply drives people to the dance floor.

Serving up vintage Pop Rock hits from Buddy Holly forward and throwing in some of their own Tex-Mex infused originals and unique tweaks of other covers, this band is musically interesting and passionate about delivering a high-energy, exciting performance.

Jollimore will have to hustle to get ready for this show, however —from 5-8 Fridays he hosts a weekly acoustic show along with bassist Kim Cadilla at tiny Graffiti’s on Baldwin St. in Kensington Market.

Though there’s only a small dancing area in front of tonight’s stage in the club at 141 Danforth near Broadview, that won’t present a problem for regular followers who come out tonight.

Many of them will be used to seeing the band perform in the sardine-tin environment of Graffiti’s, where they do a monthly Sat. afternoon matinée —despite the fact that there is really no room for dancing in that wee joint, people were moving and cavorting anywhere they happened to be in the packed bar at the group’s show there that I went to see.

This evening’s event gets underway around 9:30 and there’s no cover —but the group has an awesome album of originals that will probably be available for purchase, which I’d heartily recommend.
