James Clark recording live show at Linsmore Tavern tonight

\TORONTO EAST\

If you, like me, are among the many thousands who, for very many good reasons, area not going away this Labour Day weekend, you’ll be in the mood perhaps to take in some fun at one of a plethora of fine shows on offer at local pubs and bars over the next few days.

One that should be memorable is tonight’s live recording gig by quirky and deep James Clark with his James Clark Institute 5-piece band tonight at Linsmore Tavern in east TO.

As I told you last month, James already has several provocative and appealing albums in release (hear his “House For Sale” song on the Featured Tracks section of this website) and is currently working on a new one with iconic producer and longtime Clark collaborator Moe Berg. I’m not sure if the plan is to use some of the material from tonight’s recording (being done not by Berg but by Joey Gaitanis of the band Cadre) on the new disc but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of it ends up there.

Clark will have Chris Bennett with him on various guitars and backup vocals, as usual, as well as keyboardist-singer Greg Condie and his rhythm section of Jeff Dunk on 4-string and Gord Fynes on drums.

There’s no cover for the 9 p.m. show in the nearly 80-year-old room at 1298 Danforth Ave. (maybe 50 paces away from the Greenwood subway station) but you can always express your love by picking up one of his previous discs, which he always has on display.
