Rockpile East jam takes over Wednesdays in Scarborough

/SCARBOROUGH/

With barely a whimper the weekly Wednesday jam at Scarborough’s Loaded Dog slipped into the abyss a couple of weeks ago. But fortunately a new event in a new room had started up and now remains the go-to place for Rock artists on a Wednesday night.

The Dog jam, which had been running since November, was cancelled for the night of Wed. May 21, ostensibly because the club was expecting a big crowd for Game 6 of the Chicago-L.A. NHL playoff series. But only a few days later the band posted a small announcement on the Facebook event page (which I had missed at the time but finally found after scouring the page) stating that the club would no longer be hosting the Wed. jam.

That all happened shortly after the new Wednesday jam had started at another Scarborough club. The 8-12 jam with hosts Juggernaut Jam Band, featuring singer/bassist Andy Narsingh, takes place at the new Rockpile East at 2787 Eglinton Ave. E. at Danforth Rd. originally the famed Knob Hill holy shrine to Scarborough Rockers and since those long past halcyon days known by many other names.

I can’t tell you much about the new venue, since I haven’t yet been there since it changed ownership, but the exterior looks good and from the photos I’ve seen from the night, which also features highly regarded guitarist Mike Vassos and drummer Dave Langguth, it looks like they’ve done things right.
