Lowlife scum steal musical instruments and equipment used to teach inner city kids at Cabbagetown Community Arts Centre | TorontoMoon.ca 190724We | Shows for Wednesday, July 24, 2021

Some of the kids taught by Cabbagetown Community Arts Centre -COURTESY

\ TO CENTRAL \

As if it’s not bad enough that thieves think nothing of stealing a working musician’s instrument or other equipment from a gig location, their vehicle or even their home, some total scumbags in the Cabbagetown area have done the same to inner-city kids living in the neighbourhood.

Last night the Cabbagetown Community Arts Centre, which offers music and other types of arts lessons to children from low-income families in the area and beyond, had all of its guitars, violins and several items of musical sound equipment stolen during a break-in at its offices at 422 Parliament Street.

The news was announced earlier this morning by horrified centre director Sarah Patrick, posting on social media.

The centre, a 40-year-old registered charity, offers instruction on instruments such as Bass, Drums, Flute, Guitar, Piano, Saxophone, Violin and Keyboard and has of course maintained a supply of those instruments in order to do so.

We reached Glen Loucks, assistant director of the centre, who advises a crowd-funding campaign has just been set up to help replace the stolen items.  Located on the centre’s pre-existing GOFUNDME.com page, the campaign seeks to raise $20,000, of which, at 3:10 p.m., so far only $160 has been donated.

Some of Ms. Patrick’s musical friends have also indicated they would be willing to donate instruments and other equipment.  If you want to reach out to the centre directly their email address is [email protected] and the phone number 416-925-7222.

Stay tuned for any info about how the campaign is going or any benefit show organized to raise additional funds.
