Peter Hill & Lisa Particelli -GARY 17

Peter Hill & Lisa Particelli -GARY 17

\ TO CENTRAL \

We’ve written a few times about the weekly Girls Night Out Jazz Jam for singers and players that for the past couple of years now has taken place usually at 120 Diner on Church St. (but the first week of the month at Jazz Bistro on Victoria Street).

The event, which has been running 8-12 p.m. and has been going on for 14 years now in various locations, is hosted by singer/flautist Lisa Particelli backed by Ross McIntyre on bass and uber-versatile keys man Peter Hill —about whom we’ve written countless times as an accompanist, as a songwriter, as host of his weekly Tuesday Duos Nights that hits the three-year mark in a few weeks, and as a member of combos such as Laura Hubert Band and Alex Pangman and Her Alleycatz to name just a couple.

But now the 120 Diner schedule now features Particelli’s Jazz jam running 7-11 for the second through fourth Wednesdays, following a 6-7 showcase by various diverse artists.  And as of last week it’s now followed by a new Late Night Live” Jazz open stage which also features Hill as part of the mix.

The new 11-1 event, which is also streamed live according to the promo, is hosted by popular singer/comedian and entertainer Mandy Goodhandy, with Hill providing the musical accompaniment on the three nights he’s there for the Particelli affair.  On the first night of the month, when Hill and Particelli are at Jazz Bistro (and when Glen Hornblast hosts a new 6-8 Roots cabaret, followed by Heather Luckhart’s new Blues jam till 11) Goodhandy has guitarist Nathan Hiltz backing her.

Tonight will be the second installment of the new arrangement, meaning that now anyone who doesn’t feel they’ve had their fill of musical fun with Lisa, Peter and Ross has the option to stick around and have another go with Mandy and Peter.

As an added bonus, and unusual for events at 120 Diner, there’s no cover for either the jam or the open stage.  But that of course also means you’ll want to arrive early to get a good seat, since, especially now that they’re part of a “double-header” night, both events are apt to be busy.
